I thought I was gonna hate Tri Towers and want to live in Watterson, but really now I'm quite the opposite. The ultimate point is that you can't really go wrong. You have a kitchen which is nice, but I personally don't believe it to be worth the cost. It's deathly expensive, and you still have an RA. It's better than the dorms, but at the same time, it isn't. I love tri, and would definitely tell you to consider it.Ĭardinal Court: I've been to cardinal court, and it's nothing special to me. Plus, if you like football, basketball or baseball, all the sports fields are over this way. It's fairly easy to make friends on the floor, and even multiple floors, thanks to the layout. People that have only eaten at Watty don't believe it, but it's true. The other thing is that it also has a dining center attached, and as someone who has eaten at both Watty and Linkins regularly, the food is so much better here. It's about a 10 minute walk to the quad, or a 3 minute bus ride. People are gonna tell you it's far, but it really isn't. I will defend Tri until the day I die, this place is awesome. Only downside I know is that there's no attached dining center, so you have to walk to Watty if you wanna eat. The Visor center is right at the base, so if you're looking to tutor/get tutored, you're already there. I've only visited once or twice, but it seems pretty easy as far as layout is concerned. Hewitt/Manchester: I don't have much experience with HM, but it's right by Watty, so also close to the quad. Dining Center is attached though, but if you go at peak hours, EVERYONE will be here. It's the closest to campus though, 2 minutes from here to the quad. No matter how early or late you get there, expect it to take forever. It's not awful, but it does get bothersome. You need a key to get into each floor, so if you want friends to come visit, you have to let them in. However, when it comes to making friends, you're sort of isolated to just who is in your little cluster. The layout is super duper confusing, but it's not TOO bad once you get used to it. I've never lived here, but I've stayed over a few times, and helped a friend move in. Watterson: Easily the most popular dorm, something like 80% of people who live on campus live here, just cause it's huge. I'll give you a breakdown just based on my experiences. Plus Watterson has a dining center attached, and Dominos across the street for late-night pizza. Speaking of the view, the laundry rooms are on the top floor so you can chill up there and do homework with a great view while waiting, instead of being in the basement like at East Campus. Plus, Van Buren/Madison has a hell of a view. If you're worried about having to wait for elevators (again, not a big issue) live in wither Smith/Jefferson (the bottom levels) so you can take the stairs, or Van Buren/Madison (the top) so you're always guaranteed an empty elevator. If you're lazy like me, get a room on the 3rd level of a house, because that's where elevators stop. My sophomore year I had what was generally considered the worst room layout (the long, narrow double) but even that had the benefit of having a walk-in closet. The rooms all have different layouts, but square footage wise are much bigger than Tri or H/M. The Suite style living breeds a closer community than living in floors like Hewett/Manchester or Tri, even if you do have to let guests in because the doors are locked. The floor layout isn't complicated it all after the first week or so living there. I spent 2 years at Watterson and it''s so much nicer than people say.
