Steels are less important that proper heat treat/temper,etc.1045 is considered the low end of functional for a sword, but I'd rather have a 1045 blade with good geometry made by a smith familiar with the steel and how to properly heat treat it than a 1095 by a Smith who doesnt.Imho, the steel only matters when everything else is done properly. Shinwa is usually very low end crap, sometimes not properly heat treated, fake Damascus patterns on some, etc.Usually the low end of functional. True swords sell alot of low budget, light target cutters, like Musashi brand. These have been considered decent for people to "get into light cutting",plastic bottles and such. They will handle lighter mats but arent very durable. For $100 tho they are usually recommended for newbs to get an idea of what they may like and want.If you want Musashi, this is usually the site to go to. Huawei is one of the best on the market, bar none,at their prices. And that scares Paul and Chris. It always has. Oh and he didnt do that to you because he hates Kawashima. They are made by the Forge who makes Ronin, and they cost less.He did that because those are the Hammer Forged and Elite series that he and Ronin sale at a higher price, and you found t it cheaper, and not from him.Įver wonder why he screams about honesty and transparency in the sword industry, but has never made DSA prove they make their swords in Canada, even when there has been proof they are made in China?Or banned people who said the Hammer Forged were machined, and showed machine tool Mark's and heat discoloration?Or gives Ronin their own sub forum, own moderator, and locks the thread where they make their quality claims, including calling their synthetic ito real silk? Well that's what he does anytime another brand starts getting more recommendations on his site than his pet brands do.He has done this for years. He did it to HSTS,who even their cheapest $200 kats were far better than his or Ronin. He spreads rumors and talks crap about anyone who is a threat.
